iheartfaces - Soft and Sweet

Soft and Sweet is the perfect theme for Ella.  The youngest of four, Ella has always been my sweet dessert.  She takes her time. She enjoys life.  She observes intelligently.  She loves wholeheartedly. This week she came home from kindergarten and said, "Mom, every day is a great day, isn't it?"  When I look at life through Ella's eyes, each day always is.

Banana-Pecan (Muffin) Cupcakes

When my freezer looks like THIS (see below!), I am thankful that I am assigned to baked goods for the spring Bible Study brunch!  Another moment of gratitude comes after realizing that, in my quest to bake through Martha Stewart's Cupcakes book, I have yet to try the Banana-Pecan Cupcakes!

For this purpose, however, we are not going to call them cupcakes.  What self-respecting southern lady would eat a cupcake for breakfast -  in public, no less?  Instead, we shall call them muffins!

In an attempt to make these dainty little cakes a little more muffin-like, I made a few changes to the recipe.  I substituted white whole wheat flour for Cake flour, canola oil for butter and reduced the sugar by half.

To half of the batter, I added Trader Joe's Sweet and Spicy Pecans.  I started chopping them with my knife, but ended up running them through my parmesan cheese grater for a finer chop.

These pecans happened to be much more spicy than sweet.  If you've ever had a Mexican chocolate cake with a slight hint of cinnamon and cayenne, the effect would be similar.  The flavor is mild with the initial bite, but the heat grows gradually on your palate.  Fortunately, the nut lovers seemed to also be spice lovers!  If you're not a spice lover, use plain toasted pecans or leave them out all together.

The batter came together beautifully -

- and baked to a tender golden brown.

Even a muffin can have a little dollop of cream cheese frosting, can't it?

Fruit, Nuts and Cheese..... The breakfast of champions!

Banana-Pecan (Muffin) Cupcakes
Loosely Adapted by Simple Girl from Martha Stewart's Cupcakes

3 cups white whole wheat flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
4 very ripe large bananas, mashed (about 2 cups)
3/4 cup buttermilk
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
3/4 cup canola oil
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup agave nectar
3 large eggs
1 cup pecans, toasted and coarsely chopped (plain or spicy) - optional

1.  Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.  Line standard muffin tins with paper liners.  Whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt and cinnamon.  In another bowl, beat bananas until smooth.  Add buttermilk and vanilla.  Add oil and brown sugar.  Add eggs, one at a time, beating until each is incorporated, scraping down sides of bowl as needed.
2.  Reduce speed to low.  Gradually add flour mixture, beating until just combined.  Stir in pecans by hand.
3.  Divide batter evenly among lined cups, filling each 3/4 full.  Bake, rotating tins halfway through, until a cake tester inserted in the centers comes out clean, about 16 minutes.  Transfer tins to wire racks to cool completely before removing cupcakes.
4.  To finish, pipe a small dollop of cream cheese frosting on top.

Cream Cheese Frosting

12 ounces cream cheese
1 stick butter
1 pound confectioners sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
pinch of salt

With a mixer, cream the cream cheese and butter until light and fluffy.  Add vanilla and salt.  Continue to mix.  Gradually add the sugar and beat until fluffy.  MMMMM!!

FOTD: 04.27.11 - GSpot Cosmetics Matte Lipstick in Lustrus

I knowwwww, what a provocative name for a company! ;P Is it more scandalous than the infamous NARS blushes? Maybe, maybe not - it's short for GlamSpot, as I learnt later on. But let me tell you, I am much more content searching 'NARS Orgasm' on Google than I was 'GSpot'.. Word of advice, use 'Gspot Cosmetics'.. yeah.

Anyway. FOTD using this lipstick and my new ELF Studio blush in Berry Merry - both of which I acquired in a recent swap using MakeUp Alley:

Products Used:
Eyes - 28 Neutral Palette
Cheeks - ELF Studio Blush in Berry Merry
Lipstick - GSpot Cosmetics Matte Lipstick in Lustrus
Gloss - Maybelline MNY Lipgloss

I'm actually really impressed with the lipstick - it's completely matte, extremely pigmented and incredibly long-lasting. At £9.50 a pop, it's a bit cheaper than MAC but I have a feeling in terms of quality, it's pretty high up there. It smells like raspberry too.. Or is it a residue of my lindzer biscuit from Costa? Lol, we will see, as I'm tempted to try out some more, especially from their Gloss Lipstick line. The packaging is also very nice, it's a matte plastic which is kinda rubbery but not as much as the NARS packaging. Also has the imprint of the brand logo:

Heh.
As for the blush - it's a good colour, and I like that it's relatively sheer so you don't have to concentrate so hard on what you are doing. This along with the packaging is my favourite part about ELF blushes!

Have any of you tried GSpot Cosmetics?

Information of Pregnancy Ultrasound Week-by-Week

Information of Pregnancy Ultrasound Week-by-Week

3D Ultrasounds

3D Ultrasound is a step in the traditional 2D tests used in medicine today. Modern technology has made it possible to make images of fetus while still in the womb. Today Powerful computers Technology and software’s now can be produced wonderful images of the baby inside the uterus. Which Never before such a clear image was available.
In a conventional 2D scanning the ultrasound image is composed of a series of slices and can be viewed one at a time. Although the picture is very instructive, the picture you see does not look like a little baby.

With 3D Ultrasounds is a series of echoes from different angles that can be stored digitally, then the shadows to produce photographs of life as the fetus.
The vast majority of the time, 3D Ultrasounds will introduce you to your baby and reassure you that he or she is well and healthy development. In very exceptional cases where there is a problem; 3D Ultrasounds may help you understand exactly what they can prepare in advance for any treatment needed.

Did you have a 3D Ultrasound is actually good for your relationship with your little one Unborn Child? Well it is! Studies show that mums who have the 3D/4D Ultrasounds before birth bond better with their babies. Moms make Strong and very important connection with their little baby and feel like they "know" their baby better when he or she is born.

4D Ultrasounds

You may have heard of 4D Ultrasounds? What is the difference? Instead, consider one of the baby pictures, like snapshots; 4D is in four dimensions ultrasound examinations, which creates the live action images of the unborn child. There are many advantages of 4D Ultrasounds technology in pregnancy.4D ultrasounds assembles pictures into time series, in other words, You Can See the Video of the little baby inside the womb.

Depending on how the baby is active during the inspection, you may be able to see the movement of your child's hands and feet, or even watch a yawn, blink, sob, or wiggle of the fingers. If you’ve been feeling a little anxious about the health of your baby—and what pregnant mum doesn’t?—seeing this can be extremely reassuring.

Important Information

Normally 4D Ultrasound is used 24 to 34 weeks. Before 24 weeks the little baby is not developed enough for it to be really beneficial. 27 to 34 weeks baby has enough fat, and there is still possible to move, so the pictures are excellent. This experience with the 3D/4D ultrasounds is amazing and I would recommend it to especially pregnant women’s. See your unborn baby up close and personal. This experience would be incredible, and unforgettable.

Sometimes a two-dimensional ultrasound shows a problem. While 4D Ultrasounds used to confirm an anomaly. Most centers that perform a 4D Ultrasounds , recommends that the test performed after 20 weeks of gestation. It is when the child is usually large enough to see the features.
Three-dimensional ultrasound (3D scanning) and four dimensional (4D scanning) can be a little bit complicated to perform, it is important to choose a center with ultrasound experience of 3D Ultrasounds and 4D Ultrasounds .

Angel Prints Ultrasounds provides 3D Ultrasounds and 4D Ultrasounds (WITH GREAT EXPERIENCE) for expecting parents in Lafayette and Baton Rouge, LA and other surrounding areas in Louisiana. For More Information visit here: http://www.angelprintsultrasound.com/

Review: Sigma Miss Taylor Kabuki

A few weeks ago, Sigma sent me their Miss Taylor Kabuki brush as part of the Sigma Affiliates Programme. Since it's starting to get warmer and powdering is becoming more of a necessity, and with the holiday season coming up, I thought this might be a good time to review this baby :)

This brush retails on Sigma's website at $25 which works out at about £15 without the shipping. I've always found Sigma's shipping services to be really good, and even to the UK most parcels only take about a week, which is always a plus that doesn't put me off ordering from abroad :)

In terms of the product, it's basically the F80 in a purple tin. I love several things about this, but the packaging is something I'm a bit mixed about. I think the tin is a little bit cheap-feeling for £15, but the metallic purple is very flashy and nice. I also love how the casing functions. If you see the little bit sticking out at the bottom of the bristles, that actually comes up to cover up the bristles, therefore protecting them and making it really easy to put the lid back on.

L: Miss Taylor Kabuki, R: F80
As for the actual brush, it is almost exactly like the F80 in terms of the size, but it's just a little bit wider and also a little bit lighter. I feel like the bristles are thinner and it's not as densely packed, which I was really pleased about. It's a LOT easier to swirl than the F80, in that it doesn't drag on your skin and powder application is a lot nicer which I think is a must with a travel brush. With the F80, powder application was a bit too heavy for my liking. With the Miss Taylor Kabuki, I felt it wasn't as cakey and a lot more 'dusting'-like, which is what I prefer.

This also means that other powder products like blushes and bronzers work as well, which really did make this an excellent brush to have when I was away for a weekend, or just in my purse. Although the flat top was a bit difficult for bronzer/blusher, it was still do-able.

For size, it's not too big and would fit in most make-up bags. The lid is very secure so you can even throw it in your bag and you wont have the fear of the lid falling off and crushing the bristles.

L: Miss Taylor Kabuki R: F80

If I had to choose between this Miss Taylor (flat top) or Miss Audrey (round top), I think they both have pros and cons. Miss Taylor can be used for all absolutely anything, but I think powder, blush and bronzer may be better with Miss Audrey's round top. However, I think liquid foundation/blending out concealer is easier with a flat top. Miss Audrey is probably better for the purse and for touch-ups during the day, but Miss Taylor would be more universal cuz you could use it on weekends away and holidays for liquid foundation/concealer. Although I suppose you could use a round top for liquid foundation - it depends on what you need it for!

I was actually quite afraid to wash this, but I found that filling in the sink, and dipping the ends in the water was the best way to do it. Because there's a gap between the tin and the bristles, it's easy for water to get down there and near the roots of the bristles, so I made sure that the brush was always facing down - wasn't as hard as I thought :)

Overall, I'm impressed with this brush, as it's really well built, multi-purpose and it's really handy to have. I can see myself always having it in my make-up bag from now on, it's just so handy :)

The only downside, again, is the packaging which I think feels a bit cheap, so really the only concern is price - and that's the reason why I never bought it myself. However, if you can afford it, I say go for it - it's an incredibly handy brush to have, and it'd be very hard to go wrong with this! :)

Have you got one of the travel kabukis? Any other lusts from Sigma? :)

I'm hoping for the Travel Set in Nice for my holiday this year!
